The Ambassador
March 10, 2017This coming Saturday, I’ll join more than 60 Abq artists in displaying “Ambassadors to the Galaxies”–art made upon fiberglass “ball-men,” sculptures that once were Powerballs adorning gas station entrances around New Mexico. Huge thanks to Abq Public Art Director Sherri Brueggemann for including me in the project.
Ambassador Pierrot Spotz came to me in a flash. He is connected to everything on the galactic AND subatomic levels. His message is unspeakable; his message is complexity and awareness and the pure joy of being. He is always juggling, always dynamic, always clowning for the universe. I brought him to life through successive layers of spray paint masked by office supply stickers, which I pulled off after a final coat of flat, outer-space black.
The press release follows below, to tell you more about the project. I hope to see you at the event!

The InterGalactic Ambassadors Project is an artist-based interpretation of what it would mean to be an
InterGalactic Ambassador of good will. Over 60 artists ages 9 to 75 have transformed recycled fiberglass
figurines into all kinds of “out of this world” figures embodying the meaning of ambassadorship and a
welcoming message to and for extraterrestrials - from their planet to ours. This lighthearted project
showcases art and creativity as an important tool for diplomatic relations near and far. All of the completed
InterGalactic Ambassadors will assemble at the Balloon Museum in celebration of World Contact Day on
March 15th for a group photo prior to the celebration event on Saturday afternoon.
