Incubators and Accelerators

CNM’s Ignite Community Accelerator: a 10-week full-time immersion program to help you grok and launch your business.

ABQID: What began as the AbqID Accelerator has grown into four robust programs. Coming soon: “from idea to business in 52 hours,” the Startup Weekend, June 2, 2018.

WESST:
Funded by the city of Abq and other sources, WESST offers low- to no-cost business education, mentorship, and a variety of services. Wish I’d known about the Comcast Digital Media Studio at WESST! Perhaps my author video shoots might have been better lit.

COWORKING SPACES:
Fatpipe’s description of coworking:

“Coworking is a style of work that involves a shared workplace, often an office, and independent activity. Unlike in a typical office, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is a social gathering of a group of people who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with people who value working in the same place alongside each other. Coworking offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home.” [collected from FatPipe Abq on 4/20/18]

PRODUCTION: PRINTING

Traditional Production: Design
I worked as a freelance designer for fifteen years or so. For me, designing the book was about getting back in the saddle, albeit a newfangled saddle where someone smart had moved all the buttons. Design is not extra; no design IS design, just bad design. If you find publication design intimidating, I’m with you! It is, because so much incredible design has been done for so long. If it sounds like a juicy challenge to you, dive in! There are classes at UNM Continuing Ed, loads of videos on YouTube and on Lynda.com,

Traditional Production: Printing
Lee had a personal connection with the print shop at the University of Toledo, which is not generally available to the public.

Print On Demand (POD)

Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) service is how Chimera Projects intends to publish a POD version of ORD in late summer 2018. I’ll post our analysis of the experience then.

eBooks:

COACHING & SUPPORT
If all of this sounds entrancing but overwhelming, invest in coaching!

Gibbous, Creative Support for Creative People: Erin Elder. Erin has been amazing to work with. Flexible, professional, funny and informed, Erin helped me evolve as a creative. And that’s a big deal.

ART SPARK: Kristine Maltrud. Kristine is a lifetime dancer and creator who grew her own business. She now lives and works in San Francisco. Her organization, Art Spark, serves artists around the world in growing their practice into a profession.

Lastly, ME: I work with creatives as a psychotherapist slash coach. I accept insurance through my work at Bosque Mental Health Associates, an agency near San Mateo and Montgomery, and I work privately outside of that agency. I can help you navigate the hundreds of decisions involved in making your book.
